Slaanesh warband

Well, I've been slowly working on a Slaanesh warband to break up the monotony of green that comes with painting a goblin army! As greenskin army painters will attest, you start seeing things in green after painting goblin after goblin. I'm sure skaven players suffer from a similar syndrome!

Anyway, onto the models. I wanted to stray away from the 'loud' colors typical of slaanesh, while keeping the traditional purple tones typical of this god's color scheme. The warband is based on the Jes Goodwin sculpts, with some RoC marauders in there for the sake of variety. I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Since I am still working on my photography skills, I took some close-ups of the individual models in order to do them justice. I worked on these models in groups of 3, and photographed the models in similar fashion. This ensured that the models in each sub-group kept some degree of color scheme coherence. You will see what I mean in the first picture, in which I attempted to add some color variety by using greenish flesh tones on the first and second models of the group, while reinforcing the underying purple tones of the group.

I was not certain what the first model in this next group is, but he looked appropriately depraved and thus won his way into the group. The abundance of armor plates allowed me to practice my NMM. The third figure in this group is some form of bull which, I can only imagine, hearkens back to the first edition Keeper of Secrets.

The central Slaaneshi snake-man is probably my favorite mini of the group. He is accompanied by 2 acolyte-type figures on either side:

The central figure here is a very iconic Slaaneshi warrior. I'm not sure what book would be important enough to carry open into the thick of battle, although knowing his kind it is probably some version of the Kama Sutra! I believe I first saw this warrior in the Chaos "Combat Cards" of old. His bodyguard is comprised of 2 Slaaneshi beastmen. I attempted some freehand on their shields and I'm quite pleased with how the simple designs turned out. Far from ground-breaking, but I think my freehand skill is slowly improving

  2. Thank you! I give partial credit to the many painting tools we have nowadays that were not available 'back in the day'

    1. Thank you! Also have a RoC Slaanesh daemon contingent in the works. You can never have too many claws or boobs as backup!

  4. Great looking warband with some iconic figures. I really like the muted tones and darker purple. I think that is how I would paint it. The free hand looks good to me. Keep at it.

    1. Thanks Sean. I'm planning on doing some freehand Ork back banners for Orktober, using photocopies from the back of the codex for guidance as you suggested
